The introspection in this round is well done. The first half set up an interesting parallel between Bee and Ethan for people who had been isolated, suffering from mental disorder that is only coming out stronger in the presence of new people. The continuation of Ethan's desire to stop the Master of the Warped is also a good reminder. The separation of Ethan and Eli seemed a bit convenient, but I can understand choices made in the name of plot and managing characters. I was particularly pleased with your handling of Sam and Tarquin as a team. I just want to hug Sam. Or perhaps have Sam hug BJudge Comments: Round Two by ~LadyRiverlark

1. Stardust - last seen near downtown (location 5) by Bee and Kate (R1). Current location and destination unknown. He was in normal condition.

2. The Laughing Man (Drenalis) - last seen near the river/subway station (location 16/9) by Dani and the Underground survivor community (R2). He kidnapped Nei'ess and teleported away like the villain he is. Current location was not determined by the writer, but he will be teleporting Warped into the area of the Zoo (location 11). He had infilitrated the new arrivals before revealing himself, managing not to sustain any particular damage.

The Zoo proved to be a large and sprawling complex well over a couple of hectares in area. With this in mind, and using Doc’s memories of the terrain, they took a detour that took them into its jungle-like expanse through a different entrance, of which the Zoo had several. It didn’t guarantee they would not be discovered, of course, but it was better than marching in the front door, as it were.

As far as days went, this one sucked. Hard.

Jennifer paced back and forth, trying to think but spending much more time clutching her temples. She wished she had some tylenol, maybe even vicodin. Or at least a sturdy hammer. Her head felt like it was caving in, and her stomach was considering a full-on system purge. Groaning, she sat down again on the crumbling wall, putting her forehead into her hands.

What Liars DeserveThe crick in Jeanne’s neck brought a reminder that she wasn’t dead yet. She remembered someone saying pain was good, that it was a sign the body was trying to heal. That was bull. This kind of pain just mumbled, “you slept in a stupid position,” over and over, never pausing for a breath.

Details of her current situation swam to the surface of her mind.  There was some kind of weird message, and before that she’d nearly been killed by some huge tentacled thing. Ether had to jump back to avoid the whistling tip of the man’s spear. “For goodness sakes! Stay your hand!” She dodged a thrust. “Still your wrath. You’ve mistaken things.” She made nimble steps to keep her distance and her life. “Whatever has happened, it’s not what you think.”

It was no use. The man’s anger was like a vast boulder dislodged from its perch, beginning to roll down the mountainside, gaining greater and greater force and speed. Thunder was in his face and eyes, like the sight of a falling storm reflected on a pane of glass.

Dr. Adrian Nephram was mostly staring at his feet, because that's what everyone else was doing. It was a little awkward.

How was one supposed to react properly to the death of a colleague, he wondered. He certainly didn't know. Death customs weren't something that came up in casual conversation, and it wasn't something he could recall any of his professors ever teaching. Nothing thus far had really prepared him for a situation like this, and it made him slightly... what? Uncomfortable? No, not quite.

Jeanne Audition for LibertasToday Jeanne was moving out. She couldn’t afford to stay, with the rent going up nearly $200 without reason. The place wasn’t that good anyway. One of the windows never shut, and Jeanne knew it was the man two doors down who’d been leaving the passive-aggressive notes taped to her door. Jeanne was barely home, so it would be hard for her to be the one guilty of making all the noise he claimed was coming from her place. As soon as she turned in the key, she would be on her way, looking for some place more likely to attract a giant chicken.

High above the planet, Gatekeeper watched. Thick clouds and rolling rainbow energy coursed over the sphere, washed red by the light of two weak suns. This was the task he had been created to fulfill. He had already kept his vigil for over a century of this world’s time, though Time had lost its meaning as well in the Breaking. Soon though, he would be unable to watch without aid.

Gatekeeper wished to complete his other charge while he still could.

Some had survived, despite the world, despite the warping, despite the war. Some sentient creatures had been able to make Temporus their home, sheltered at the heart of Eos City in a lee of the distortions. Survival and rehabitation were theoretically possible. He couldn’t bring back those who had lived here before, but he could bring the planet back to life.

It was time.


Welcome to Libertas OCT. This is a literature-only Original Character Tournament set in the abandoned and ruined city of Eos, hosted by ~LadyRiverlark. Characters from all worlds and all times are being brought together in this survival mystery tournament, tossed into the middle of a power-struggle for a dead planet. At the end of the struggle, only the person on top will be able to dictate the future of Eos- if it has one at all.

This journal will have any new announcements and updates as things progress.

Okay! I have the results at least. I had to call in a tiebreaker on one of the matches since we were down to an even number of judges.

It was a hard round to judge. Half the time, I felt I was comparing apples to oranges because the thing I found lacking in one person's round would show up in their opponent's round and vice versa. All of you should be very proud of yourselves.

Judge comments will come together over the next day or two. I know that there was some desire to have time for between-round writing, so go ahead with that and I hope people are having fun.

I am really happy to hear you had fun. And honestly, thank you for writing for this. I couldn't host a tournament at all if there was no one to write for it and make it their own.

OCTs are great ways to become stronger writers. Just look at Leucrotta. She lost in round one of the first OCT she wrote in (that I'm aware of) and now, several OCTS later, she's one of the better writers in here. You've got a good start; all you need now is practice and feedback.

#OCTFollowers and #WritersOCTAlliance are good places to start for looking for new tournaments when you feel ready.

Never thought you were. They are small gatherings anyway and hardly required. It's just nice to make a community when possible and you're good company. I'm sure you'll stop by when you can.

Same here. D: Friday night there is early Saturday morning here. By the time I wake up and get online, the chatroom always seems to be empty. T_T
